New rules come into force on 01 October 2014 for employers who lose employees, who are reservists, when they are called to active duty.

Currently employers are reimbursed up to £110 per day for the cost of replacing an employee who is taken off to active duty, the reservist is paid directly by the MoD, but from the 01 October SMEs will also be able to claim a further £500 a month for each complete month that a reservist is away from work due to an MoD call up.

The payment is pro rata for part months and part time employees and there is a formula in the legislation to calculate the payment due. The formula (and the rest of the legislation) is found by clicking here.

This payment is also available to partners and partnerships.

To qualify for the extra payments an SME must have a turnover of less than £25.9m in the 12 month preceding the claim.

Claims can be made at the following addresses depending on the service that the employee is a member of.
