From 1st October 2014 fathers and partners will be permitted to take paid time off from work to attend ante- natal appointments. The right is to attend up to two appointments each of up to a maximum period of 6.5 hours. If an employer refuses this time off or refuses to pay the employee for this time off then the employee has the right to complain to the Employment Tribunal.
In addition, employers are not able to treat their employees who exercise these rights any differently or less favourably.
You should make sure that you have an updated paternity policy to address these changes.
